I'm not your typical girl. I've been running away from the memories that haunt me for so long that depression has become my only comfort. I was content in the darkness...until Wes Michals offered to be my light.
I didn't know that time wasn't my ally -- that every second that ticked past was one step closer to the end of something that was beginning to mean the end of myself. He tried to warn me. He promised me all he was able to offer--each moment as it came--but it would never be enough.
Sometimes when you think it's the end, it's only the beginning. Wes thought he could save me, but in giving me everything, he ruined me. Because after one kiss, one touch, I couldn't--I wouldn't ever be the same.
And from that moment on, his heartbeat became my own.
Bad boy quarterback with a heart! Kill me! That’s how this books starts out!
I am sucker for bad boys and Weston has that reputation. Although when he meets his “Lamb”, he must know her. Sound cliche’? Read that line way too many times in a romance book? Yea, me too, but its not cheesy in this book at all, because you will fall for Weston just as fast as Kiersten did.
“Note to self, when a girls smile makes you forget your name- your in deep shit.” -Weston
Weston has a mysterious background when he meets Kiersten on the first day of her freshman year. She comes from a small town where she pretty much shut herself in due to a tragedy in her, not too distant, past. He comes from money and tragedy. They seem destined to be together, except Weston holds her a arms length for as about a day. He just can’t help want to be near her. She makes him want to live again. He makes her want to scratch all her “To Do” things off her list now! So why can’t they be together? Its not because of the parents, because Weston’s dad is great and Kierstens uncle demands she go out with him. So whats the problem?
Kiersten and Weston’s banter is priceless. Their backgrounds are picked at but not reveled to us through most of the book, leaving a slight tinge of mystery. We get the looming feeling that Weston’s life is more stressful that he lets on. His happy smiles hide a secret that he is scared to let out. He keeps alluding to the fact that he isn’t gonna be around forever and Kiersten shouldn’t, under no circumstances, fall in love with him. However, he keeps doing the sweetest things with her, so how can she not? This guy is literally the most thoughtful book boyfriend ever!
Ohhh, and we can’t forget about Gabe. Gabe is Kierstens roommate’s cousin. He cares for her more than he will admit to anyone. He doesn’t want to see her hurt, and quickly I started to ask why. He is hot and can get any girl he wants, why does he want to protect this girl he doesn’t know; this girl that has clearly fallen for the star quarterback? Maybe because she is pretty and innocent and sheltered. Maybe because he see’s her pure heart and wants to protect it and be there when it breaks.
This book is pretty short so I can’t say too much without giving anything away. I usually take notes for my reviews, but I couldn’t do it for Ruin because I knew I would say too much. Its so hard to do when you have this much emotion in a book! I want to go on and on, but can’t because I will give it all away. I am actually posting this book right before I read the end so I don’t let the emotions take over my review. This can go one of two ways and I am honestly scared I will be crying at work tomorrow while listening to the end of Ruin. As it is, I had to keep sucking up tears today.
This is a good read! Short, to the point, and full of emotion. The best part is, even though its short, the characters are well developed and I do connect with them on so many levels. Read this books and come back here to talk about the ending!
