Torn between two men...
When I woke up after the accident, I couldn't remember anything from the last year--including my relationship with Max Hallowell or anything about Nate Crane. Now my memories are returning, but instead of answering my questions, they're leaving me with more.

The man who broke my heart and wants to be my future...
Max is all I ever wanted, and now he wants to marry me. He'll do everything he can to fill my life with love, family, and security. I need those things now more than ever. But can I trust him?

The man who stole my heart and wants to let me go...
Nate never made me promises, and I never asked him to. I'd been on the rebound, looking for a distraction, and he made me feel beautiful and wanted when I needed to feel those things most. He says he has to let me go, but what if I can't let go of him?

With every revelation and every passing day, I feel more like Alice down the rabbit hole. I'm falling. Who will catch me?

ReasonsToReadWith only a few memories recovered, Hanna’s still trying to figure out the life she woke up to, the one that amnesia is making difficult to understand.  While things may have initially seemed perfect, it’s clear her relationship with Max is missing something — she just can’t figure out what.  And while it’s clear there’s something strong between her and Nate, she can’t seem to remember why she was drawn to him in the first place.  Add to that the little surprise she got from her doctor, and having a few memories seems more difficult than having none at all.

div TheVerdictOddly enough, this book made me really start to dislike Hanna.  I mean, Max really was the perfect guy for a long time, and while I can understand her insecurity, the fact that she allowed her negative body issues to ruin a wonderful relationship isn’t something I can just roll with.

As for the rest of the story…  It’s beginning to remind me of fanfiction, or maybe soap operas?  Fanfiction authors are notorious for ending chapters on evil cliffies, often to keep their readers guessing and (more importantly) coming back for more.  Which is why I only read the completed ones.  But the level of drama in these cliffhangers is something reminiscent of the soap operas I watched when I was a kid, when we only got like 5 channels and lived so far out in the boonies that cable wasn’t an option.  Every Friday during summer, the soaps ended with someone discovering an infidelity, revealing a pregnancy, or returning from the dead.  I half expect the next book to have the same couple marrying each other twenty times between other relationships and for Claire to suddenly be aged to sixteen.

It’s hard for me to give this book the highest rating because (a) half of the story had already taken place, so there wasn’t a lot of forward movement, and (b) did I mention the cliffhanger?  But it was still an entertaining read, with at least a few questions answered and much better insight into Max.  At this point, I’m not really sure who I think she should choose, but then again Max is the one who’s stuck by her and supported her, even when his past mistakes made her leave him and fall in love with another man.  Perhaps he’s really perfect after all.
